Flint for Mac Support FAQ
NOTE: For
compatibility reasons, Flint and all associated tools are compiled as x86
(i386), which run just fine on 64-bit
systems, perhaps after some tweaking as described below.
Q:
The Flint GUI
is not starting.
A: Other items in this FAQ
relate to this problem if you have specific messaging. Here are some general directions:
·
The Flint GUI (and Xlint,
for that matter) requires X11.
Unfortunately, as of Mountain Lion, X11 is not included in OS/X.
Depending on your version, you will install either X11 or XQuartz. The system should alert you to this
situation.
·
Depending on your OS/X
version, you may need to specify that “flintgui” is a
32-bit package. Navigate to your install
directory (e.g., /usr/local/cleanscape)
in a command prompt, then type “open .” which will open the directory in
Finder. Right-click filename “flintgui”, then select “Get Info”. If available, check
“Open in 32-bit mode”.
Q:
When I try to
start the graphical source browser Xlint, I get the following message:
dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libXm.4.dylib
A: In addition to X11,
Xlint also requires motif. The best
version to use on OS/X is OpenMotif. To obtain using homebrew:
brew install homebrew/x11/openmotif
Furthermore, for 64-bit systems, you will need the 32-bit motif
libraries. Because OS/X, unlike Linux
systems, does not
maintain both 32- and 64-bit libraries, the Xlint ZIPfile
for Mac will contain the gnu 32-bit motif libraries,
which will be
extracted into $FLINTHOME/x32libs. Each
Xlint user will need to have their .bashrc (or
equivalent) updated to contain
export
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH:$FLINTHOME/x32libs
